Hydrochloric acid is the solution of hydrogen chloride (HCl) in water.
It is a highly corrosive, strong mineral acid and has major industrial
uses. It is found naturally in gastric acid.
Historically called muriatic acid or spirits of salt, hydrochloric acid
was produced from vitriol and common salt. The alchemist Jabir ibn
Hayyan first formally described it in the eighth century. During the
Middle Ages, it was used by alchemists in the quest for the
philosopher's stone, and later by European scientists including Glauber,
Priestley, and Davy in their scientific research.
Hydrochloric Acid is a highly reactive chemical and it forms metal
chlorides, most of which are soluble. This leads to its wide industrial
use in metal cleaning applications.
* Cleaning and pickling of metals
* Acidizing of oil wells
* Processing of textiles
* Food processing
* Manufacture of chlorine and chlorides
* Manufacture of ossein/gelatine.
* Manufacture of chloro-organic compounds and polymers such as PVC,
chlorinated rubber etc.
Quality
Hydrochloric Acid is manufactured in technical collaboration with UHDE
GmbH of Germany, using graphite furnaces of Lecarbone – Lorraine,
France. This gives a products of very high purity and water white
appearance, as it is free from iron, a common impurity.

Modi HCI is supplied in rubber lined lorry tanker
1. HCI reacts with most metals and cannot be stored in metal containers
2. It should not be stored with or near oxidizing agents, particularly
nitric acid and chlorates
3. It should be stored in a cool, well ventilated place.
4. All electrical wiring and fixtures in and around the storage area
should be protected with acid vapour proof casings.
5. Storage tanks should be provided with adequate vents.
Handling and Storage
Store in a cool, dry, ventilated storage area with acid resistant floors
and good drainage. Protect from physical damage. Keep out of direct
sunlight and away from heat, water, and incompatible materials. Do not
wash out container and use it for other purposes. When diluting, the
acid should always be added slowly to water and in small amounts. Never
use hot water and never add water to the acid. Water added to acid can
cause uncontrolled boiling and splashing. When opening metal containers,
use non-sparking tools because of the possibility of hydrogen gas being
present. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since
they retain product residues (vapors, liquid); observe all warnings and
precautions listed for the product.
